Resource Round-Up

Here’s a resource round up of materials to review, and of course, get other people to view!

Flyer’s being taken

I laid out some flyers on the tables in the Commons on campus and all but two got picked up. Not too bad.

Palm Media Images

I doubled checked and am allowed use the Palm Pre photos at palm.com/meetpre on my flyers. Thank you Palm!

Linux Users Group + preDevCamp?

The UMBC Linux Users Group hosts fairly regular discussion sessions and talks. I’m signed up for February’s session to discuss and promote preDevCamp, the Palm Pre, and webOS. I will be presenting the architecture and concepts behind webOS on the Palm Pre. If I make a proper presentation, I’ll put it on SlideShare.

I’ve also placed out a flyer in a few places. If you want a copy of my .doc file to use or to start your flyer from, email me and I’ll send you a copy.

Location, Location, Location

Alright, my fellow Baltimore developers. I’m looking for venue suggestions. I am looking around right now but some of you probably know Baltimore better than I do.

Some criteria area are:

  • Plenty of Power Outlets – we’ll need to set up some extension cords and power strips
  • Chairs and Tables – if the place has them to borrow the would be best
  • Easy to Get To – right off the light rail or beltway
  • Allow Food in Venue – offer affordable catering or allow us to cater
  • Will Allow Signage – signage is good for many reason… like finding the place

When you give a suggestion, please provide a their name, general location, phone number, and their website if they have one.

General Smartphone Evangelizing

I’ve been thinking alot about how we can promote the preDevCamp and the Pre in general. One the issues I have is remembering  to bookmark the mobile versions of websites.

So a tool for general smartphone evangelizing is a directory of mobile websites. You can say, Hey you have a smartphone and you can [ read news, check your travel plans, view photos ] on mobile websites.

So I’ve started such a directory at http://prelink.mobi … take a look and let me know if you know of any other good sites that should be on the list.

I also posted this at my personal blog at alicecarback.com

Everybody loves forums!

Get on the preDevCamp forums and share your ideas for applications and sessions! You too, Baltimore!
